What we affectionately named a "Nine Stone Lady" is only created by Nicolas Tandi and Elliot Katumbera. The reason being that their workshop is in a place called Black Granite, about 15 miles outside of the capital city of Zimbabwe, Harare. Because of the location of their workshop they have access to the diamond drills and diamond saws at the Black Granite Plant on a Sunday when the plant is closed. This allows them to precisely slice the hardest stones of Zimbabwe named below and bond them together with space age adhesives. Each piece is unique. The variety of colors and textures in the various stones creates a visual frisson. Between the simplified torsos and the dramatic headgear, the delicately detailed heads beautifully emerge from the striations. The stones include Butter Jade, Beige Limestone, Dolomite, Butter Jade, Cobalt Stone, Spring stone, Dolomite, Spring stone, and Beige Limestone
