Go to the shopThis piece, we affectionately named "Nine Stone Lady", is created by Nicolas Tandi. The reason being that the workshop is in a place called Black Granite, about 15 miles outside of the capital city of Zimbabwe, Harare. Because of the location of the workshop he has access to the diamond drills and diamond saws at the Black Granite Plant on a Sunday when the plant is closed. This allows him to precisely slice the hardest stones of Zimbabwe named below and bond them together with space age adhesives. Each piece is unique. The variety of colors and textures in the various stones creates a visual frisson. Between the simplified torsos and the dramatic headgear, the delicately detailed heads beautifully emerge from the striations. The stones are White Dolomite, Beige Limestone, Springstone, Butter Jade, Springstone, Dolomite, Beige Limestone, Springstone, and Dolomite.
Mudiwa is a beautiful sounding name, meaning ‘my love’.
