We discovered Farai in 2017, and we were blown away by his ability to truly make stone come alive. This pair depict a traditional healer and and his supportive wife. Known as Nanga's, they command deep kudos and respect in Zimbabwean society because of their uncanny diagnostic abilities.
Butter Jade is a hard, fine grained stone that is impregnated with unakite (petrified vegetable material), and requires very careful handling because of its brittleness. Farai has almost exclusively carved Butter Jade, in recent years. He is 'as one' with the medium. His expertise with faces, anatomy, hair, fabric, earrings, and necklaces is astounding . . . creating works that are among the finest sculptures being produced in the world today.
